Last Victoria Westie Walk after a Decade.
Here you see the 95 West Highland White Terriers (Westies) and their owners who attended the 10th Annual Victoria Westie Walk on April 4, 2010.
The weather was overcast and threatening rain that day but it passed and the rain held off the entire time. However from the smiles in the photo above you can see that it takes more than that to dampen the spirits of those rugged Westies and their unflagging owners.
We should mention this was the final Victoria Westie Walk under the current organizing committee and none are planned for the future. There are ongoing discussions about the possibility of continuing the walk but nothing is certain at this point. If you have any input, suggestions or offers please forward them to the the webmaster. Stay tuned to this website for updates.
Thanks to the Organizers
We would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to the organizers and sponsors of the Victoria Westie Walk for their dedication and work in bringing this event to our city for the last decade. They are, Gloria Marshall with her boy Mulligan Stewart, Kathy Knight with her girl Maggie Mae and Doris King with her boy Samson who can be seen on our About Us page. Their husbands Winston, Martin & Don have contributed also to the event for the last 10 years. We would also like to thank Fort Victoria RV Park for providing free parking at the rally point and for free web hosting of the Westie website for the last 10 years.
We are gathering notes and expression of appreciation from our website visitors which will be presented to Gloria, Kathy and Doris. If you have anything to say to them or a story to tell, please forward to the webmaster for inclusion. Thanks all.
Prizes
We had 12 lucky winners this year from our gift draw. This year 98.5 The Ocean radio station donated a dog bowl and a 98.5 The Ocean shopping bag for each winner to take home their gifts. Also Woofles Barking Boutique provided free home baked treats to all the hungry Westies. Also a special thanks to Paul Roberts (photo #55) for the 5 lovely hand carved and painted Westie plaques he donated. Check out the Winners Circle Gallery for the names of the winners and their pups.
Photo Galleries
Many participants have returned each year with their Westies and some have returned alone or with a new friend. Some of the older dogs who started with us have gone on to the rainbow bridge but are remembered fondly in our photo galleries. We have made fast friends with many folks over the years and we look forward to seeing you all again, hopefully in some new venue. We have many special photos this year. If you couldn’t make the event check out the 2010 Gallery.
Photo Contest
If you see your Westie in the gallery, let us know and we’ll be sure to include their name and yours too, if you are in the photo. Or if you have a special photo of your own taken at the event, send it to the webmaster for inclusion into the gallery on our next update. Please note our exciting Photo Contest this year sponsored by HeelingDogWalks. Details on this page.
New Video page added.
We are excited to announce a new Video page this year. Along with our own videos are some that were filmed and aired by Victoria’s own CHEK News. Thank you CHEK News for the coverage over the last 10 years. More videos will be posted as they become available. Check back every now and then, you may see yourself in one of them.
